The upscale pricing buys the patio and the sightline more than it buys technique, and the New American label here reads as broad and accommodating, a menu built to please a rotating audience of vacationers rather than to make an argument about regional cooking. Diners chasing the Tampa Bay canon, Cuban sandwiches with Genoa salami, deviled crab, whole grilled fish, will not find any of that on this menu, nor should they expect to. This is a sunset room. It works best for couples marking an occasion, for out-of-towners who want the postcard version of the Gulf, and for anyone who has already decided the view is the entree.
The patio seating and the romantic framing are doing real work here, and on a clear evening they may be enough. Judged strictly on the plate, the ambition is modest. Judged as a beach-strip sunset dinner, it delivers what it promises.
