Start with the thing most Tampa listings still get wrong: there is no Tampa Bay Veterans Parade this year, and there is not going to be one. The organisers have announced a permanent hiatus on their own site. Plenty of round-ups still carry the old Hanley Road route and the 10 a.m. step-off, and if you drive out there on the strength of one you will find a normal road. Veterans Day itself is still Wednesday, November 11, and Hillsborough County’s tribute at Veterans Memorial Park is still the region’s main observance. The free meals are a separate question, and less settled than the internet suggests. Every list you will find today is last year’s list. We checked.
The parade is not happening
The Tampa Bay Veterans Parade ran for years on the Saturday before Veterans Day, down Hanley Road with the review area at Webb Middle School. It is finished. The parade group posted that after careful consideration it regrets to announce the permanent hiatus of the annual parade, and that notice is still the first thing on their own website.
This matters because the old details are sticky. Search Tampa Veterans Day parade and you will still be handed a 10 a.m. step-off, an 8.30 road closure and a staging area, all of it lifted from previous years by sites that never went back to check. There is no route to stand on.
What is actually happening
Hillsborough County Consumer and Veterans Services runs the Veterans Day Tribute at Veterans Memorial Park and the Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum, at 3602 North US Highway 301. It is free, open to all, and salutes veterans of every era and branch. The national Veterans Day Committee at the Department of Veterans Affairs has named the park an official Regional Veterans Day Site for nine consecutive years, which is a genuine distinction rather than a local one.
The county has not yet posted the 2026 date and time. Its event page still shows last year’s tribute, the 61st. In recent years it has run on Veterans Day itself at 10 a.m. at that address, so that is the reasonable expectation, but we are not going to print a time the county has not published. We are watching the county page and will put the confirmed 2026 details here as soon as they go up.
Free meals: what is actually confirmed for 2026
Same problem, different subject. Search for Veterans Day free meals right now and you will find long lists with 2026 in the headline. Open the restaurants’ own pages and the offers are from 2025. Applebee’s Veterans Day page, as this was written in mid-September, still says the free entree is available on Tuesday, November 11, which was last year’s date. November 11 is a Wednesday in 2026.
So we are not going to publish a list of offers that no restaurant has agreed to. What we can tell you is the pattern, because it is remarkably stable. The chains that run a free Veterans Day meal have run it for years, most announce in the last week of October, and the terms rarely move: dine-in only, one meal per veteran, a limited menu to choose from, drinks and tip not included, and participating locations only. Applebee’s has run its offer for eighteen consecutive years. Golden Corral, Texas Roadhouse, Chili’s, Denny’s, Red Robin, Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans and Buffalo Wild Wings have all been regular participants.
We are checking the chains’ own pages weekly and will list each 2026 offer here as the restaurant confirms it, with the date we confirmed it. Nothing goes on this page from an aggregator.
What counts as proof of service
This is the question that actually causes trouble at the door, and the answer is broader than most people expect. Applebee’s published terms accept a Uniformed Services ID card, a Uniformed Services retired ID card, a current Leave and Earnings Statement, a veterans organization card such as American Legion or VFW, a DD214, a citation or commendation, and, simply, a photograph of yourself in uniform. Most chains use a similar list. If you served and you do not carry a card, a DD214 or a photo is usually enough. Call the specific location first, because the offer is franchise-level and the person answering the phone is the one who will be working the door.

Where to eat on the day
Veterans Memorial Park sits out on US 301, well east of the restaurants worth a table. These are the rooms to drive back into town for, ranked by Insider Score. Bern’s is the Tampa institution and needs booking; On Swann is the highest score on our list.
